French historical roots are scattered across St. Louis. “Soulard” is one of them.
It’s the name of a French Revolution refugee who helped develop the area in the 1790s. Even though the neighborhood is best known for its Mardi Gras celebration, it also hosts popular annual events like Oktoberfest and Bastille Day (the French version of Fourth of July).
Try out Llywelyn’s and McGurk’s for some great Irish pubs, the former for the drinks and the latter for the music. Oh, and the by the way, the area is home to Anheuser-Busch Brewery, which is always worth an annual visit.
