Brennan’s Central West End Bar Review

November 22, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

I love Brennan’s. Been there multiple times. They have a great wine list and a small and cozy atmosphere. It is kind of hidden in the CWE which makes it all the more appealing. Good place to end the evening after bar hopping or a fun place to take a group of girls for after dinner drinks.

Schlafly Bottleworks (Maplewood) Restaraunt Review

November 2, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

If you are in the mood for a beer and a casual atmosphere Schlafly Bottleworks is a good place to go. With a great array of their beers on tap and great view of their actual brewery it is fun place to grab a drink and bite to eat. They have a huge patio outside that is tented and had live music the night we went. Lots of apps, sandwiches, pizzas and locally grown ingredients that they detail out on their menu. More of an alternative crowd was there along with a few families and college age kids. Parking lot is huge and right on site. You can smell the hops as soon as you get out of the car. The nice thing is after you leave there it is easy to pop around to some other bars right there in the heart of Maplewood.

Molly’s in Soulard Review

November 2, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

Molly’s is a great spot for a young crowd and the patio is one of the most popular in St. Louis. Lots of college kids and Soulard residents were hanging out there on the Friday evening we stopped in. With a wrap around bar, lounge style seating on the out skirts and tented and heated area in the cooler months it makes for a fun patio drinking atmosphere. Service was not the best, but the appetizers we split were pretty good and they had a nice selection of creole style entrees. The restaurant is right next door which we did not venture into.

Sub Zero Drinks Review

November 2, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

If you are looking for a cool spot to drink strong vodka drinks this is the place. The food was pretty good too with lots of sushi options and a list of gourmet burgers to choose from as well. With the ice bar, large array of vodka options and the louder music that plays into the evening this is a great place for a young groups of friends to hang out and to grab a late night dinner at. Parking is always an issue in the CWE. If you get down their earlier in the evening it makes it a lot easier to find a spot.

The Scottish Arms Review

November 2, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

This place has a very comfy and cozy atmosphere – perfect for a chilly evening. Very dim lighting and a fantastic selection of beer and liquor at the bar. Out back they have a great outdoor seating area open during the spring and summer months and inside find lots of booths and bar seating. If you are looking for a heavy dinner and drinks this is the place to go. I ordered beer on tap and would have never run out of choices I wanted to try. Lots of guys hanging out in the bar and the age range was across the board – from college kids to older adults.

Eleven Eleven Mississippi Review

November 2, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

This is a perfect restaurant to take a date you want to impress or guests from out of town. The menu is always full of a great selection of seasonal and comfort style food. I really enjoy the happy hour they offer at the bar and they switch it up every week day so check before you go on what they are offering. They also have a patio area that is heated in the winter and shaded in the summer. Lots of business lunches during the day are happening, but in the evenings expect to find a lot of dates and friends out to dinner. The service here is always great.

Robust Wine Bar Review

November 2, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

Robust is a great place to go if you are in the mood for a glass of wine (or two or three) and a lighter dinner or lunch. They have a great selection of cheese plates and soups/salads and smaller entrees – good for sharing. The cork bar is fun to look at and the staff there is very attentive and knows plenty about the wines they offer. There is a nice little patio outside if the weather is nice. Lots of groups of girls and date nights were happening on the Saturday I was there. Their seafood chowder was delicious and so were the scallops. I would highly suggest the wine flight options – three 3 oz pours of a red or white wine.

PW Pizza Restaraunt Review

November 2, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

PW has a great laid back atmosphere. It is a small space – maybe seating 60 o so, but the kitchen is open so you can see what the chefs are up to and food is great. While we were there you could see them tossing the dough. Lots of different pizza options than I have seen before – the Pulled Piggy is fantastic and topped with BBQ sauce, pulled pork and even cole slaw. The wine and beer selection was great and apparently is updated on a regular basis. There is a soup of the day and quite a few salads and sandwiches to choose from if you are not in the mood for pizza. Young servers and a relatively younger crowd as well.

Over/Under in Washington Avenue

October 22, 2011 in STL Bar Reviews

So today we went to Over Under downtown off Wash Ave. Thought we could watch the 2nd half of the Mizzou game and grab some lunch. We were downtown picking up our race packets for the Rock n Roll Half Marathon on Sunday, so no drinks this time. To start off, it took about 10 minutes for us to get seated. After finally getting a table our server took another 7 or 8 minutes to get our drink orders. She told us the kitchen was backed up so we immediately decided what we wanted to order. We sat and watched the rest of the Mizzou game, watched a few other games and chatted about the Redbirds. About 45 minutes later our food finally came out. I had the Over Under cheese burger and I was not pleased. Not the best burger in town. Service horrible… food not great… Drinks no comment
